This is the kind of meal that feels comforting and indulgent while still fitting perfectly into a round of Whole30, the paleo diet, or your food freedom!

Why You’ll Love This

  • Whole30 + paleo compliant, without feeling restrictive (at all!)
  • All the flavors of a classic loaded burger – no bun required
  • Easy to customize with what you have on hand
  • Great for meal prep and weeknight dinners
  • Family-friendly and endlessly adaptable

If you’ve ever missed burgers during a round of Whole30, this bowl is the answer you’ve been searching for.

The Key Components

These bowls come together in layers, and each one plays a role:

  • Seasoned ground beef – simple, savory, and flavorful
  • Crispy bacon – because burgers deserve bacon
  • Roasted sweet potatoes – the perfect hearty base (basically sweet potato fries)
  • Fresh toppings – lettuce, pickles, tomatoes, onion, avocado
  • Whole30 special sauce – creamy, tangy, and totally drool-worthy

Nothing fancy. Just really good food that works together.

So… About That Whole30 Special Sauce

This sauce is inspired by classic burger “special sauce,” but made fully Whole30-compliant. It’s creamy, tangy, a little savory, and ties the entire bowl together.

The combination of compliant mayo, ketchup, mustard, dill relish, and coconut aminos gives you that familiar burger-joint flavor without added sugar or questionable ingredients.

This sauce is what really makes these burger bowls taste like the real thing!

Pro tip: make it ahead of time. The flavor gets even better after a little chill time in the fridge.

How to Build the Perfect Burger Bowl

Start with a base of shredded lettuce or romaine, then layer on:

  • Seasoned ground beef
  • Crispy bacon crumbles
  • Roasted sweet potatoes
  • Pickles, onion, tomatoes, and avocado
  • A generous drizzle of special sauce

From there, adjust based on what you love most — extra pickles, more sauce, or even a scoop of my famous coleslaw mix for added crunch.

Tips + Tricks

  • Sweet Potato Shortcut: Air frying cuts cook time and adds extra crispness.
  • Letting the Special Sauce rest for 10–15 minutes helps the flavors meld and mellow.
  • Flavor Boost: If cooking bacon from scratch, reserve a little bacon fat and use it to brown the ground beef for extra depth and richness. If you’re air-frying bacon and already have bacon fat on hand, feel free to add a small spoonful to the pan for maximum flavor.
  • Bacon Shortcut: Pre-cooked oven bacon works well for quick weeknight assembly.
  • Storage: Store components separately in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. Sauce keeps 5–7 days.

Meal Prep + Leftovers

This recipe is ideal for meal prep. Store each component separately and assemble when ready to eat.

  • Cooked beef and sweet potatoes keep for up to 4 days
  • Special sauce lasts 5–7 days refrigerated
  • Reheat proteins and potatoes, then assemble fresh

Perfect for quick lunches or no-stress dinners!

Final Thoughts

These Whole30 Burger Bowls are proof that clean eating doesn’t have to feel boring or restrictive. They’re hearty, flavorful, and hit that comfort-food sweet spot — without sacrificing how you feel afterward.

Assemble the Bowls

  • Assemble bowls with shredded lettuce, burger mixture, sweet potatoes, coleslaw (if using), crumbled bacon, pickles, and any additional burger toppings you enjoy.
  • Drizzle with special sauce and serve!
