Putting together a baby shower gift around one sweet little book is quickly becoming one of my favorite ways to make a registry gift feel a little more personal.
A few weeks ago, I shared the You’re My Little Sunshine baby shower gift I put together for a baby girl, starting with the sweetest little board book and building the rest of the gift around its soft, sunny theme.
So when I had another baby shower coming up—this time for a baby boy—I knew I wanted to do something similar.
A few of the registry pieces already had a subtle stars-and-space feel, and when I found You’re My Little Star, everything clicked. From there, I added a few cozy baby essentials and little extras that made the whole gift feel thoughtful and pulled together.

Building a Gift Around You’re My Little Star
I love using a book to tie together a baby shower gift because it gives everything a little bit of a story.
Rather than choosing a handful of unrelated registry items, I like to find a few pieces that loosely go together, then add a book that ties everything together—without making the gift feel too matchy-matchy.
For this one, I pulled together a mix of:
- a few star and outer-space-inspired finds
- cozy essentials for baby
- practical registry items the parents will actually use
- a couple of little extras that make the gift feel special
One of my favorite finds was the glow-in-the-dark sheet set from Pottery Barn Kids.
It wasn’t on their registry, but it fit the gift so perfectly that I couldn’t resist—it’s practical, playful, and something they can use long after the baby stage.
And, of course, You’re My Little Star was the little finishing touch that brought the whole gift together.
My Formula for a Thoughtful Baby Shower Gift
I’m realizing I tend to follow the same little formula whenever I put together gifts like this:
Start with something sentimental.
A book, keepsake, or another little piece that can help tie the gift together.
Add something cute.
Because tiny baby things are half the fun of shopping for a baby shower.
Include a few practical essentials.
Registry items and everyday things the parents will genuinely reach for once baby arrives.
Finish with one or two pieces that make the whole gift feel special.
Something for the nursery, a cozy blanket, a beautiful diaper bag, or another item that gives the gift a little more presence.
The end result feels much more personal than simply checking a few things off a registry, while still giving the parents things they genuinely need.

I also love this idea because it’s easy to adjust depending on your budget. Start with the book, add a few smaller essentials, and build from there.
A Little More Thoughtful Than a Traditional Gift Basket
I’m always a fan of shopping the registry for a baby shower—the parents have told you exactly what they need, after all. But I also love finding little ways to make those practical gifts feel a bit more personal.
Choosing a few registry items that loosely coordinate, then adding a book that ties everything together, has become one of my favorite ways to make a practical gift feel a little more personal.
First there was You’re My Little Sunshine, and now we have You’re My Little Star.
